• Taking a BTEC means you will have to deal with lots of assignments. You need to complete them within the given deadline. It means that it is more time-consuming.
• Many universities do not prefer to have vocational courses. It is because they do not focus on the more academic parts. This is extremely true for universities like Oxford and Cambridge.

Although I have discussed the benefits and drawbacks of BTEC, now is the time to know more about A-levels. Following are the benefits and drawbacks of taking A-levels in further education–

Benefits

• Taking up an A-level means that you will study deeper concepts related to the subject you have taken and thus you must not miss any of the exams.
• If you are unsure, which stream to get into, this is the perfect choice. It is because you can take three different subjects giving you flexibility.

• This subject is evaluated on both coursework and more on exams. Therefore these qualifications are accepted by all universities. 
• As they also involve exams it will help you prepare for the exam periods in your universities.

Drawbacks

• If you are a person who cannot handle exam pressure then taking up A-levels may be a big disadvantage.
• As it is based on how well you score in your exams, you must study hard to get good scores.
• It does not provide you with any practical knowledge and is based on academics.
• You will not get any practical experience for your future career.

BTEC vs. A-levels

Taking up both qualifications gives you different benefits and drawbacks. Therefore which one is better depends from person to person. If you are not sure in which field you want to enter then definitely you must go for taking up A-levels. On the contrary, if you know which field you want to enter then BTEC is a better choice.

You may also consider the factor at which both qualifications are evaluated. If you love assignments rather than taking traditional exams then BTECs must be your choice. But if you are more comfortable taking the exams, you should choose A-levels.

Is BTECs level 3 equivalent to A-level?

Yes, if you are taking up BTECs extended diplomas at level 3, they are typically considered equal to 3 A-levels. When you take BTECs at level 3, you get UCAS points equal to that you get for taking up 3 A-levels. These UCAS points can be used to meet the university requirements. 

Can You Study A-Levels and BTECs Together?

Undoubtedly, Yes. You can study both A-levels and BTECs together at a particular time. This is because different BTECs are equal to 1, 2, or even 3 A-level courses. I will suggest you, if possible, take A-levels along with BTEC. This is because many universities do not consider BTEC qualifications.
