I can finally say that the weeding is complete (for this moment in time). In the future, we may decide to lay down some wood chips to prevent the weeds from coming back quickly. For now, I am satisfied. What I also discovered today was the pumpkins are growing! They are so darn cute, andContinue reading “Pumpkins”

Each Day is Another Day of Progress
I felt discouraged this morning after filling the bed of my truck with weeds NINE TIMES, driving it to another spot to dump, and only getting through half the pile. However, it is a process, and I was able to get a few other things done to get the garden looking a lot better today.Continue reading “Each Day is Another Day of Progress”
Appreciation
Working on this garden has really made me appreciate those that do hard manual labor, landscaping, hired gardening and maintenance. While I am no trained expert, I can understand there is quite a bit of effort, physical stamina, and, just the overall ability to to stick with the job even when it looks terrible afterContinue reading “Appreciation”
Weed Wacker!
It happened. I finally got a weed wacker. A very good friend of mine, couldn’t take the weeding any longer, and gifted/donated/life-savored me a brand new weed wacker. I charged the battery, watched a couple YouTube videos (so I didn’t completely screw up), and went out to see how it would work. Besides my forearmsContinue reading “Weed Wacker!”
And, the weeding continues…
How much can I write about weeding? Apparently a lot. These seemingly endless task brought me great joy today. I went out, sickle over my shoulder, with a determination to take out a large area, and it worked. There is really not much to write about, so I will just add pictures and captions.
Tools Make a Difference
While I do not have have machines out here, I did get an upgrade from some of the broken tools I had been using. The hedge shears were a huge plus, the sharpened sickle, and a working rack made a big difference out there today. Plus I had a little help today. Nothing compares toContinue reading “Tools Make a Difference”
Progress???
Progress is hard to come by these days. While there is progress being made, it seems that I am just making a new pile in a different area. These weeds are never ending. As you can see in the video below, it looks like a MESS! Good news is that I got a more sturdyContinue reading “Progress???”
A Small Highlight
A few weeks ago I completed a Master in Local Sustainability through the San Mateo County Office of Sustainability. In order to complete the program I need to volunteer for 40 hours over the course of the year. I asked if fixing up the school garden during the summer, unpaid, could be considered volunteer hours?Continue reading “A Small Highlight”
Green Career Awareness
The garden is chuggin’ along. The pumpkins are flowering, the beans are wrapping around the poles, and the corn are growing tall. The calendula, marigolds, and a couple sunflowers are poppin’ up. Some of the lettuce I planted with my nieces is starting to show up above the ground. I have finally decided to askContinue reading “Green Career Awareness”
Weeding…
Clearing out space is an understatement. Each time I head out to the garden I am immediately overwhelmed with the amount of weeds that need to be removed, in order to build an outdoor classroom. I really need to get that weed wacker! I have been out there with pruning shears, a sickle, and aContinue reading “Weeding…”
